OUR 13TH SEASON

MOZART
REQUIEM
Sunday, October 15, 2023
ST AGNES CATHOLIC CHURCH
1920 NEWBURG ROAD
3:00 PM | $25 | 70 MIN
Among the great masterworks of the Western canon of choral music, the Mozart Requiem holds a unique place because of its history, its function as a concerted liturgy for the dead, and its more recently popularized mythology - and few works represent the final expression of a dying composer who left an unfinished work to be completed by this pupil. Yet if has become one of the most recognizable classical works in all of music history. Our program opens with Latvian composer Peteris Vasks' setting of Mother Teresa's prayer, the Fruit of Silence. The beautifully simplistic setting of her words of love, hope, and peace establish a mystical reverence that parallels Mozart's own dark mysteries and prepares the listener for the fathomless questions to come.

CAROLS FOR
THE SEASON
Sunday, December 10, 2023
HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH
3345 LEXINGTON ROAD
3:00 PM | $25 | 70 MIN
Our Christmas/Holiday program features some of the most beloved Carols of the Christmas season, accompanied by Louisville brass and organ. Come and join your voice with Master Chorale's largest and most accomplished ensemble, our audience, as we experience anew the Carols of Christmas. Our Louisville Brass will be featured in John Rutter's most popular of Christmas works, his Gloria. A grand processional with David Danner's Arise, Your Light Has Come, opens the program and additional brass fanfares and carol settings follow. This is a program for the entire family that will evoke memories of Christmases past, while offering the best in classical brass and choral music.

DURUFLÉ
AND FINZI
Sunday, March 17, 2024
SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
3701 OLD BROWNSBORO ROAD
3:00 PM | $25 | 70 MIN
During this season of remembrance and reflection, Master Chorale offers two works for choir and organ that reflect the power and mystery of sacred texts. Uniting the Chorale with Second Presbyterian's magnificent Casavant Freres organ is Ken Cowan, one of North America's finest concert organists. Praised for his dazzling artistry and impeccable technique, Ken, along with Louisville baritone James Rittenhouse, will join the Chorale in Durufle's incomparable and virtuosic Requiem. A companion work by English composer Gerald Finzi - Lo, The Full, Final Sacrifice - completes the program with its thought-provoking setting of Thomas Aquinas's text in Richard Crashaw's translation.
